As we enter our third month of self-distancing, we're highlighting the last country we visited before Covid sent us home 🇱🇦. Laos doesn’t have a great deal of architectural sights (the ones here are from Vientiane) but the country is definitely worth visiting for its delicious food - try the Khao Jee (like a Banh mi), Larb (meat salad) and Lao sausage - delicious! Thinking back to brighter days zipping around on our electric 🛵🛵 exploring the temple ruins of the Angkor Wat complex in Siem Reap, Cambodia 🇰🇭. We saw 20 temples over 3 days, with some taking hours to see every nook and cranny while others only 10 minutes to walk through it all. Although a lot of backpacking is meeting other people, sightseeing, and partying with your new friends in exotic places, traveling also is an opportunity to learn so much about yourself and humanity in general. Sometimes that means coming face to face with the evil and horrors that humans can inflict on each other to see the dark side of humanity in hopes of never letting terrible histories repeat themselves. Walking through the Tuol Sleng Genocide Musuem and the Choeung Ek Genocidal Center, more commonly referred to as the Killing Fields, was the saddest thing we've personally come directly in contact with as it's so hard to understand why anyone would torture and kill their own people. It's a strong reminder that we are all human and that we should all strive to be examples of the good in humanity not the bad. Especially in times when we're seeing mass panic back home and people fighting over food and toilet paper, this message needs to be conveyed even more. Our dash through ‘Nam took us to Tam Coc - the Halong Bay of the land - and on to picturesque Hoi An. In Tam Coc, we finally went through a backpacking right of passage and rented a moped to zip our way through the beautiful karst landscape to tucked away temples. In Hoi An, we strolled through the Old Quarter admiring colorful lanterns and feeding our Vietnamese coffee addiction - they add coconut ice cream to make it even better! While it was an action packed week of adventure and fun we got to spend with @tor0701 and @tsylican, it was far too short and we miss our bigger crew! Ha Long Baes 👫🌅👫 Stop 2 on the TnT tour was to Halong Bay, with it’s beautiful emerald green waters and limestone karsts jutting high and blocking the sun's light so perfectly - it would be so tranquil if it wasn’t for the 30+ other boats all around! We enjoyed our time kayaking amongst the karsts, chilling on the roof deck, a visit to Cat Ba island where we sampled the local rice wine, and exploring caves with the locals on little wooden boats. Oh boy, Hanoi! While the MarRidLife crew is usually a chilled out, two person adventure team, we finally got to do the first 'meet up with friends' of our RTW trip with @tor0701 and @tsylican in Vietnam 🇻🇳. WOOOO!
